Milan is a vibrant city fuelled by art, architecture, fashion and design. Italian fashion is ever-chic and influenced by the creativity and cosmopolitain nature of Italian culture. It is easy to see why Milan Fashion Week is one of the most hotly anticipated events on the fashion calendar. New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week both welcomed an exciting variety of new trends, however in Milan designers took it to the next level. Hello boldness, vibrancy and eclectic luxury!

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall/ Winter 2018 collection was titled “Fashion Devotion” and was inspired by Catholicism. Religious themes pulsed throughout the collection starting with the set facade which was an an homage to the baroque Oratorio di Santa Cita church in Palermo, Sicily. Catholicism is definitely an apt fashion trend as we approach the Met Gala which is themed “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination”

Versace

 Donatella Versace’s Fall/ Winter 2018 collection was influenced by the glamour of the 1980s. Bold and disruptive plaids as well as cheeky animal prints and sexy leathers were hallmarks of the show. As always the collection oozed classic Versace sex appeal… all silhouettes were oh so hourglassy with chunky belts cinching waists.

Prada

Miuccia Prada’s Fall/ Winter 2018 collection was designed to showcase how fashion is an extension of contemporary art and should be regarded as such. Garments on the runway oozed sci-fi feels with glowing fluorescents and digital prints. Neon was a huge colour trend in the show which gave each look a futuristic feel.

Etro

Etro’s Fall/ Winter 2018 collection was a unique melting pot of prints, patterns and cultural influences. The collection was best be described as “ethnic futurism” and featured navajo prints, aztec prints, tassels, buttons, fringes and earthy colour tones. Bohemian prairie dresses and skirts as well as patchwork knitted outerwear were key pieces in the collection.

Giamba

Giambattista Valli’s vision for the girl who would wear his Fall/ Winter 2018 collection as the global “Insta-girl” He told Vogue Runway, this girl “can be somebody in Tokyo, Casablanca, Berlin, or Paris; it’s about her point of view rather than her location. She’s nomadic.” The collection was endlessly chic and fun. You can count on all the pieces in this show being all over your social media feeds come the Fall.

Emilio Pucci

Emilio Pucci is all about big patterns and this season saw classic Pucci signature prints reimagined boldly in orange and purple. The collection featured puffers, blanket coats, capes and skirt suits. This was Pucci’s second Fall season without a creative director.

Max Mara 

Max Mara has always been the brand for power women and this season is no different! The best pieces in the collection were the coats. This Fall look out for teddy bear coats, black leather trenches, military maxis and animal-spot belted raincoats if you want to look like you just stepped off the Max Mara runway! This collection was sophisticated and timelessly modern.

Fendi

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall/ Winter 2018 collection for Fendi was all about boxy silhouettes and subdued colour tones. Each look was crisp and sharp with fur details adding an undeniable element of glamour and luxury.

Giorgio Armani 

Giorgio Armani was the last show of Milan Fashion Week. The collection was elegant and feminine with grey and dusty rose triumphing as dominant colours. The standout of the collection was the eveningwear which included crystal-beaded, embroidered, and fringed jackets, contrasted with black velvet.

Gucci

Under the helm of Creative Director Alessandro Michele Gucci has secured its position as one of the biggest brands in fashion and hence is one of the most hotly anticipated runway shows of Milan Fashion Week. This season the runway was transformed into an operation room. This concept was put in place to reflect the work of a designer – cutting, splicing and reconstructing materials and fabrics to create a new personality. The collection featured bizarre accessories including decapitated heads, dragons and snakes. There was also a fair bit of sparkle on the runway including bedazzled tops and dresses with sparkly tassels.
